Thesis:
The United States was unjustified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The United States used atomic weapons without a complete knowledge of the effects, the aggressive use of the weapon lead to the arms race and the Cold War, and the action gave President Truman a way to justify the funds going into the Manhattan Project while avoiding congressional issues to promote his desire to a run for a second term in office.
In the Summer of 1945, President Harry Truman gave the okay on dropping an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Assuming the bombing would end the war and to save the life of American soldiers as well as Japanese soldiers. A war on land would cost many more human lives then the number of those what perished in the atomic explosion. Although, because the US didn't fully understand the after effects of using such bombs, such as radiation, it was devastating. People were anailate in the streets, innocent civilians literary vanished. Anyone who survived suffered painful radiation poisoning and burns. Not to mention the years of rebuilding and birth defects. Sure, the bombs ended the war but wouldn't one bomb be enough? Its understandable that with every war scientist compete to produce new ways of attacking their enemies; not doing test runs on unsuspecting people and families.
